A new foam pads made by a company called FoamSmart aims to clean up the pads after a game.
It uses a polymer-filled foam mat that sits in a container inside a vacuum cleaner to seal the pad, eliminating any potential for the foam to come into contact with players’ bodies.
In the past, pads have often come into direct contact with the players, but with the new pads, the foam stays out of the way.
A few feet from the player’s feet, the mat can be removed and the pad cleaned using the vacuum cleaner.
A small container of the foam mat will be placed inside a smaller container of cleaning fluid.
The fluid will then be pumped into the vacuum container and used to clean the foam from inside the foam pad.
Foam Smart says the fluid also cleans up the pad after the pads are used.
If the pads were ever to come in direct contact, they would be washed by the machine and a scrubbing pad, called a sponge, will be used to remove the pads.
Players will be given a soap bubble and soap spray to wipe off the foam.
Foams can also be washed with water.
The foam mats are made by an Australian company called ExaTech.
It was acquired by American firm Procter & Gamble in 2013 and is currently in development for the United States.
